Peyton James Scores as Dominica Open U15 World Cup Campaign Against Malaysia

Baku, Azerbaijan — October 24, 2026: Houston Dynamo Academy midfielder Peyton James scored from the penalty spot as Dominica began their FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival campaign with a 3–1 defeat to Malaysia in Group H.
James converted in the 28th minute to reduce Malaysia's advantage to 2–1, keeping Dominica in contention heading into the closing stages.
Malaysia had opened the scoring through Aqheef Haiqal Koko in the 12th minute before Anas Suffiyan Arif doubled their lead. Following James's penalty, Amirul Faris Azlan scored in the 39th minute to secure the victory.
For James, the goal marks another significant moment in his international development. Earlier this year, he captained Dominica's Under-17 national team during its CONCACAF qualifying campaign, gaining experience competing above his age group.
Based in the United States, James attends Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Texas, while developing his football with Houston Dynamo Academy, the youth development programme of Major League Soccer club Houston Dynamo FC.
The young midfielder has continued to make progress at academy level. He earned a place in the academy's September 2026 Team of the Month after contributing two goals for its Under-16 side.
His participation in Azerbaijan brings that experience into Dominica's squad as the young national team tests itself against opponents from different regions and football traditions.
Dominica will next face Mexico and Hungary on Sunday, October 25, before completing their qualification-stage schedule against Syria and Ethiopia on Monday, October 26.
The tournament features an eight-a-side format, with matches played over two 20-minute halves. Unlimited substitutions and kick-ins are among the modified rules designed to encourage greater involvement and more touches on the ball.
Following the qualification stage, teams will enter one of six competitive tiers based on their results, ensuring that every squad continues playing and gaining valuable experience.
Despite the opening defeat, Dominica have further opportunities to respond, improve and compete. For James and his teammates, the tournament represents an important step in their development and an opportunity to represent their country on the world stage.
