AABL 2026 represented more than another basketball competition on the Dominican sporting calendar.
The All About Ball League (AABL) was built around a larger vision: create meaningful competition, expose players to new opportunities, strengthen basketball development and demonstrate how sport can contribute to Dominica's tourism and economic product.
Six teams, local and international players, coaches, administrators, young athletes and basketball supporters came together at the Massacre Indoor Sports Complex for a programme designed to connect competition with opportunity.

AABL 2026 featured:
The teams competed through the preliminary stage and playoffs leading into Championship Night on September 26.
But the results on the scoreboard represented only one part of the AABL concept.
CREATING A CARIBBEAN SHOWCASE PLATFORM
One of the central objectives behind AABL is to create a credible Caribbean platform where players can compete and, importantly, be seen.
Players often send footage from pro-ams and summer leagues to clubs in the United States and Europe, but overseas teams may not recognize the competition in which that footage was produced. McGee explained that footage generated in a FIBA-sanctioned league environment can carry greater relevance when players are presenting themselves to overseas basketball organisations.
That thinking reinforces an important part of the AABL model.
PLAYING IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
For talented Dominican and Caribbean players seeking opportunities overseas, they need more than someone saying, "This player is good."
- They need evidence.
- They need competitive game footage.
- They need statistics.
- They need player profiles.
- They need photographs and highlights.
- They need interviews and digital content.
Most importantly, they need to compete in environments that coaches, scouts, clubs and basketball organisations can understand and evaluate.
AABL is working toward creating that environment in Dominica.
BRINGING THE SHOWCASE TO THE PLAYER
Traditionally, Caribbean athletes have often had to travel overseas before gaining meaningful exposure.
AABL wants to help change that equation.
Instead of waiting for every player to find the money to travel abroad to showcase their ability, why not continue developing credible international competition here in Dominica?
- Bring international players here.
- Bring coaches here.
- Build relationships with scouts and clubs.
- Produce quality game footage.
- Record reliable statistics.
- Develop player profiles.
- Livestream games internationally.
And give Dominican players the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do against different levels and styles of competition.
AABL 2026 provided an important step toward that vision.
FOUNDER OF AABL
Rich Brown
Following his professional career, Brown transitioned into coaching and athletic leadership, building over 18 years of experience developing athletes and basketball programs.
One of the featured personalities for the AABL 2026 is former professional player, coach, mentor, and basketball executive Rich Brown.
Brown is a former JUCO All-American who played collegiate basketball at Suffolk County Community College before embarking on a successful 10-year professional basketball career overseas.
Throughout his playing career, he competed internationally in:

Australia
Costa Rica
Today, he is the founder and director of a prep basketball academy in New York focused on helping student-athletes elevate their:
Basketball development
Academic performance
Exposure opportunities
College preparation
Brown is also the owner of the AAB Jaguars, a professional basketball organization based in Costa Rica dedicated to player development and international basketball opportunities.
AABL × DABA YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
AABL 2026 also recognized that building basketball cannot focus exclusively on senior players. Developing the next generation must be a central part of building a sustainable basketball programme.
The AABL × DABA Youth Basketball Development Camp, held on September 26 at the Massacre Indoor Sports Complex, brought young players directly into the AABL experience.
The camp catered to young people between 6 and 20 years old, creating an opportunity for the next generation to interact with coaches, experienced players and basketball leaders while developing their skills and understanding of the game.
A key part of making the camp possible was the support of 767 Sports Club and Beyond Hoops Academy. Both organizations played an important role in mobilizing young players and getting campers to participate in the programme.
The partnership also reinforced one of the central principles behind AABL — creating a pathway that connects grassroots basketball to organized competition and eventually to opportunities beyond Dominica.
Today's camper can become tomorrow's school player. Tomorrow's school player can become a club or academy player. That player can progress to national representation.
And with the right coaching, competition, development, exposure and opportunities, that same young athlete could eventually become a collegiate or professional basketball player.
That pathway does not develop by accident. It requires organizations willing to identify young players, bring them into structured programmes, keep them involved in the sport and provide opportunities for them to progress.
The contribution of 767 Sports Club and Beyond Hoops Academy to the AABL × DABA Youth Basketball Development Camp therefore went beyond simply getting young people into the gym. It demonstrated the value of partnerships in building the basketball development pipeline.
FROM GRASSROOTS TO THE WORLD.
The pathway has to start somewhere.
AABL, DABA, 767 Sports Club and Beyond Hoops Academy are helping to build it.

BASKETBALL + TOURISM
There is another important lesson in the Caribbean showcase concept.
Basketball does not have to exist separately from tourism. The Nature Island provides an extraordinary setting for visiting athletes.
Players can compete at night and experience Dominica during their stay.
- Waterfalls.
- Rivers.
- Beaches.
- Hot springs.
- Hiking.
- Creole cuisine.
- Music.
- Culture.
- Communities.
The opportunity is therefore bigger than filling a basketball gym.
An international player arriving in Dominica requires accommodation, transportation, meals and services. Players may visit attractions, purchase local products and create social-media content. Coaches, officials, families and supporters can do the same.
That is where basketball becomes sports tourism.
