Omari Caesar’s Next Step: From Primary School Standout to the International Track

10/07/2026

Young Dominican athlete Omari Caesar is taking another important step in his student-athlete journey as he travels to Curaçao with the Aspirers Athletic Club to compete at the 35th edition of the Trupial Classic.

The trip comes at a significant stage in Caesar's development. He recently completed his primary school education at the Roosevelt Douglas Primary School, where he was named Sportsman of the Year, and is now preparing to make the important transition to secondary school.

Caesar has already gained valuable international experience. Earlier this year, he represented Dominica at the CARIFTA Games, one of the Caribbean's leading junior athletics competitions. His participation in the Trupial Classic now provides another opportunity to compete internationally, experience a different competitive environment and continue his development.

For young athletes, the transition from primary to secondary school can be a defining period. Competition becomes stronger, academic responsibilities increase and training demands greater discipline and consistency.

This is why opportunities such as the Trupial Classic are important.

At Caesar's stage of development, progress should not be measured only by medals. Travelling with a team, competing against unfamiliar athletes and learning to perform in different environments can help build confidence, independence and competitive maturity.

Caesar is part of a 28-member Aspirers Athletic Club delegation travelling from Portsmouth to Curaçao. Under the guidance of Head Coach Nabi Wallace, the club continues to provide young athletes with structured training and opportunities to compete beyond Dominica.

The journey also demonstrates the importance of community support. Fundraising activities, sponsors, families and supporters all contributed to making the trip possible.

For Caesar, the pathway is beginning to take shape: primary school sport, club development, CARIFTA competition and now another international meet before entering secondary school.

There is still a long journey ahead, and development must remain the priority. The next stage will require continued coaching, academic focus, family support and carefully managed competition opportunities.

From Roosevelt Douglas Primary School to CARIFTA and now Curaçao, Omari Caesar is gaining valuable experience at an important stage of his development.

The future remains ahead of him, but each opportunity to compete, learn and grow is helping to build the foundation for the next stage of his student-athlete journey.
